Step 1: Locate the Indoor Battery Backup Unit

  1. The battery backup unit is usually mounted inside the home or office near the Fiber ONT (Optical Network Terminal) or power supply.
  2. Look for a Cyber Power or Espi unit labeled as the battery backup system.
  3. Unplug the unit from the power outlet before starting the replacement process.

Step 2: Access the Battery Compartment

  1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw securing the battery compartment door.
  2. Press the tab and pull the door open to access the battery.

Step 3: Remove the Old Battery

  • Espi Units:
    • The battery slides out with its attached connector—no need to disconnect cables.
  • Cyber Power Units:
    1. Unfasten the Velcro strap securing the battery.
    2. Carefully disconnect the red (positive) and black (negative) cables.
    3. If the cables are tight, use pliers with rubber grips for easier removal.
    4. Place the old battery aside and avoid touching both terminals at the same time to prevent shock.

Step 4: Install the New Battery

  • Espi Units:
    • Simply slide the battery attachment back into place.
  • Cyber Power Units:
    1. Connect the red (positive) cable to the red terminal.
    2. Connect the black (negative) cable to the black terminal.
    3. Push the battery fully into place and secure it with the Velcro strap.

Step 5: Secure the Access Door & Power On

  1. Close the battery compartment door, ensuring the tab is locked into place.
  2. Secure the door by replacing and tightening the screw.
  3. Plug the battery backup back into the outlet and check that the power lights turn on.
